Loches, Indre et Loire Loches, Indre et Loire Loches, Indre et Loire Loches, Indre et Loire Loches, Indre et Loire Loches, Indre et Loire Loches, Indre et Loire
Behind the immense door of the troglodytic quarry of Vignemont one first discovers a large tunnel cut on two levels into the cliff. We step forward along the lower passage that reaches deep under the French city of Loches, eager to learn all about the extraction of "tuffaud’, the white limestone used to build the chateaus of the Loire Valley. The gallery turns a little to the left, then to the right, divides into two, slopes down, back up, reveals mysterious recesses, leaving us completely disoriented at the beginning of a seemingly unbounded labyrinth. We had come to acquire knowledge, we find that we lost all sense of direction, that the notion of time itself escapes us at the edge of a indifined and ever so present universe, in a state similar to a demi sleep, where our sight can only rest on horizons created by our own dreams.

From this experiment Jacques Moury Beauchamp has created the first seven installations of the series "Horizons/Rêves". In the depth of the secondary tunnels, visible from the main passage, one discovers landscapes together familiar and strange: Is the wall openning on to the outside, is it an illusion, a dream? The monuments of the town of Loches are quite recognizable but they are surrounded by oceans, mountains, deserts or jungles in which one would like to enter, attracted by the inviting light. Let us recreate again our daily life, let us rediscover the imagination of our childhood that turned the smallest shadow into a marvellous universe.
Let us step into "Horizons/Rêves".

THIS FIRST CHAPTER HAS BEEN CREATED FOR THE SECOND EDITION OF THE « PHOTOFOLIES EN TOURAINE » FESTIVAL, FROM SEPTEMBER 15 TO NOVEMBER 15 2004
