VISITS

Inquiry into the state of the NEW YORK CITY art market at the end of this 2009 season shows that the economic and financial crisis has forced a number of galleries to close.
As often in hard times, the survivors are those who are the most adventuresome, the ones who give us the opportunity to discover more interesting art work than in our last few New York City visits. This is the case for paintings, from the most spontaneous to the most "photography like" realism. And photography is looking more and more like paintings, with very large formats, at the limit of abstraction at times. But also noticed was the return of a large number of very small sized prints.
The most innovative works are mostly installations and videos.
Chelsea and Williamsburg are two neighborhoods that have lost some of their gallery activities while the Lower East Side and Dumbo seem to blossom.
DUMBO, in Brooklyn
Consolidates its reputation as an art neighborhood

LOWER EAST SIDE
The number of galleries is increasing more and more.

A special tribute to Sam Haskins who was present at his exhibit at the Milk gallery. It was the occasion for me to meet this British photographer whose work, which combines graphic design and photography, I have greatly appreciated since the late 60's.
DONATION
During this visit I also worked on a donation project from HABITAT Magazine to a New York City museum. Soon after the first publication of this magazine in 1982, I started contributing for its cover, images using architectural models that I built in my studio.
This future donation will consist of a selection of large prints from this collaboration.
A first selection of HABITAT Magazine cover images will soon be visible on the website:
